Jones Maruri DuoThe Jones Maruri Duo, consisting of cellist Michael Jones and guitarist Agustin Maruri, will present several outreach sessions during their weeklong stay in Indiana April 5–10, 2015, as part of the Lively Arts Ovations! series.

On Tuesday, April 7, the duo will spend the morning performing for students at Apollo-Ridge Jr/Sr High School, followed by Maruri working with several guitarists in a workshop situation and Jones talking with music students. They will follow this format again in the afternoon at Punxsutawney High School, primarily for music students of IUP graduate and band teacher Kurt Cessna.

On Wednesday, April 8, the duo will present an informal performance in Putt Resident Hall from 8:00–9:00 p.m. This is an excellent opportunity for students to hear a preview of their April 9 performance in Gorell Recital Hall, and to meet and ask questions of the duo.

Thursday, April 9, brings another opportunity to all members of the IUP community when the partnership of the Lively Arts and IUP Libraries combine in presenting the duo in a special question-and-answer demonstration event. This noon event in the Stapleton Library Commons is free and open to all those interested. It is the final event this year of the Library Lively Arts Mary Jane Shafer Memorial series.

The Jones-Maruri duo is the only established cello guitar duo in the world, and, since being formed in Madrid in 1990, have enjoyed an active concert and recording career that has taken them throughout Europe, the Americas, Asia, and Australia. They have played in venues such as the Lincoln Center, Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Hancock Center, and following their debut tour of Japan and the Far East in July 2007, the duo has played concerts in the Forbidden City. Since then, they have performed in Korea, Hong Kong, and the Philippines.
