For the next offering on its Ovations! series, the Lively Arts at Indiana University of Pennsylvania will host the Pablo Ziegler Quartet for New Tango. This one-night-only performance infused with Latin jazz will take place on Thursday, March 26, 2015, at 8:00 p.m. in Gorell Recital Hall, located on the second floor of IUP’s Sutton Hall.

Latin Grammy-winning pianist, composer, arranger, and Buenos Aires native Ziegler brings the rich musical tradition of tango music into a new, re-energized chamber music setting with arrangements of his own compositions, as well as the music of tango legends.

After performing with the legendary Astor Piazzolla and his quintet for over a decade and appearing on iconic Piazzolla recordings, Ziegler has led his own groups for over 20 years. He has been at the forefront of refining and reimagining the bounds of the tango tradition. Ziegler will be joined on stage by Hector Del Curto, bandoneon; Jisoo Ok, cello; and Pedro Giraudo, bass, all of whom are leaders in world music.

Ziegler has been one of the most important figures in Argentine New Tango, the vibrant musical hybrid of classic tango and American jazz. He has been featured as a guest soloist with major orchestras around the world, playing with the Presidential Orchestra of Turkey, the Tokyo Chamber Orchestra, the Charleston Symphony, the Metropole Orkest in Netherlands, and Jazz Sinfonica Orchestra in São Paolo, Brazil

In 2005, Ziegler's release Bajo Cero won the Latin Grammy Award for Best Tango Album, and, in 2008, his album Buenos Aires Report made the final list of nominees for the same honor.

Tickets for this March 26 event are available now online or the Lively Arts’ ticketing website. They can also be purchased at the Hadley Union Building ticket office on the IUP campus or by calling the HUB ticket office at (724) 357-1313.
