Laurie Whitsel, PhD Director of Policy Research American Heart Association
Laurie Whitsel works to translate science into policy at a national level in the areas of cardiovascular disease and stroke prevention and health promotion. The policy research work at the national and state level. Whitsel has been integrally involved
with national policy around nutrition and physical activity.

Dr. David Holben, PhD, RDN Director, Appalachian Rural Health Institute Professor of Nutrition Ohio University
David Holben earned his Bachelor of Science in Nutrition from IUP and has built his research program on a background of clinical nutrition and basic science background; his research focuses on food insecurity and health outcomes of individuals in North
America. Exploring the relationship of diabetes, obesity, and other conditions to food access across the lifespan, as well as optimizing solutions for food access and security to promote health and wellness, are particular interests of Holben.
Holben received two Fulbright awards to study food insecurity in Burnaby and Vancouver, British Columbia, and most recently in Prince Edward Island.
