With more than 500 years of tradition to their credit, the
Vienna Boys Choir will perform as the Lively Arts at Indiana University of
Pennsylvania presents its next Ovations! series event. Offering up a wide selection of
repertoire from medieval to contemporary music, this one-night-only performance
will be held Wednesday, March 18, 2015, at 8:00 p.m. in Fisher Auditorium of
IUP’s Performing Arts Center.
Founded by imperial order of Emperor Maximilian I in 1498,
the Vienna Boys Choir is a group of 100 choristers between the ages of 10 and
14 who are divided into four touring choirs. Each group offers around 300
performances annually for nearly half a million people across the globe.
The choirs share in tours, concerts in Vienna, CD recordings,
and television appearances. A recent feature film, Silk Road: Songs Along the
Road and Time, illustrates the life of a chorister during a year on tour.
Counter to its organizational age, the world’s most famous
boys choir maintains its clear, soprano voices and remains perpetually young. Throughout
its history, musicians like Heinrich Isaac, Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber,
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Antonio Caldara, Antonio Salieri, and Anton Bruckner
worked with the choir. Composers Jacobus Gallus and Franz Schubert were
The Vienna Boys Choir’s diverse, crowd-pleasing repertoire
encompasses Austrian folk songs and waltzes, classical masterpieces, beloved
pop songs, international spirituals, and medieval chants. This will be the
choir’s first appearance in Indiana.

Any seats remaining will be sold at the door starting one

through the Premiere Club, business sponsorships, grants, and the IUP Student
Cooperative Association. The Lively Arts, a program of the College of Fine
Arts, presents nearly 200 performances, programs, and exhibits annually.
