Congratulations to Michele Papakie, chairwoman of the IUP Journalism Department, for being selected as a Golden Key Honorary Member this year.

The local chapter of the Golden Key International Honour Society selected Papakie based on her individual accomplishments, success and support of academics, leadership, and service on campus and in the community.

The IUP chapter of Golden Key prides itself on exemplifying its three pillars: academics, leadership, and service. SPARK a Change is a cause to which it is dedicated, where the chapter works to impact and improve the lives of at-risk youth in the community. Members are not only committed to raising money for this cause, but they are also volunteering as tutors at Indiana Junior High School. Golden Key members also participate is numerous service projects, including Into the Streets, Relay For Life, and the Mix-Off. They also work with the Alice Paul House to raise money and support survivors of domestic abuse.

Each year, Golden Key hosts their New Member Recognition Event. Papakie will serve as the keynote speaker at this year’s celebration, which is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 12, in Breezedale.
