IUP alumnus James Leda ’95, finance and accounting, presented “Hot Topics in Finance” during Mukesh Chaudhry’s Seminar in Finance class on Monday, February 16, 2015, in the Eberly College of Business and Information Technology.
Leda presented on decision making and negotiations in complex finance situations. He explained the decision making process and the process steps and emphasized the difference between a decision and an outcome. He highlighted the importance of leading a negotiation to a wise outcome that is
efficient and amicable.
“By picturing both processes with effort and practice,” said Leda, “we can improve our process, thus allowing us to make better decisions in the case of decision making or crafting better agreements.”
Hot Topics are sponsored by the Department of Finance and Legal Studies to host a number of speakers during the course to address aspects of finance, with emphasis on practitioners with real world experience.
“Jim is engaging and insightful with a true care for our students and their development,” said Nathan Rosenberg, a finance senior. “He provided us the environment to allow for application of the concepts as we learned them. This allowed for constructive criticism to further our comprehension. If you ever see an upcoming event involving Jim, I can assure you it will be
one you do not want to miss.”
Leda has more than 17 years of experience dealing with distressed and high yield investments. He is a managing director in the Debt Restructuring Group at PPM America, Inc. and is responsible for managing the firm’s distressed investments.
