IUP’s Middle States Reaccreditation process continues to
make excellent progress. The seven IUP Middle States subcommittees submitted
first drafts of their chapters for the self-study on February 19, 2015. Each
subcommittee’s chapter addressed two of the 14 Middles States Commission
on Higher Education’s (MSCHE) standards. Subcommittee members, 175 strong, are
representative of the entire IUP community, including faculty, staff,
administration, students, and trustees; their dedicated work is crucial to
IUP’s reaccreditation process.
All assertions in the Self Study Report must be supported by
data. Confluence—an online team
collaboration wiki—has been used by subcommittees throughout the drafting
process to keep track of data. A digital library of these data has been created
in Confluence to share with the evaluation team, which will visit campus in the
2016 spring semester. In addition to the digital archive, an evidence room
containing physical data and support material will be created. A committee is
being convened to prepare this room.
The chairs of the subcommittees will meet with Laura
Delbrugge and Hilliary Creely—Middle States self-study cochairs—and Ben
Rafoth—self-study writer—to discuss any key themes, overlaps, or missing
points. Then, the steering committee will take up the discussion and make
recommendations to the subcommittees as they prepare their final chapters,
which are due April 15. This summer, Rafoth will combine the chapters and draft
the self-study report. The steering committee will review the draft in the
early fall and will give the entire IUP community a chance to provide
Once the chair for the spring 2016 site visiting team is
named, preparations will begin to bring him/her to campus in the fall for a
preliminary visit. During this visit, the team chair will be checking on the
preparations being made for the comprehensive spring 2016 site visit.
