For the first Ovations! series event of the new year, the Lively Arts at Indiana University of Pennsylvania will bring the hit Sister Act, direct from Broadway. This divine musical comedy will take place one night only on January 20, 2015, at 8:00 p.m. in Fisher Auditorium of IUP’s Performing Arts Center.

The New York Post calls Sister Act “Ridiculously fun,” and audiences are rejoicing in agreement. Barbara Walters said of the musical, “I had the most wonderful time! It’s a show for everyone—you can even take the kids.”

Broadway’s Sister Act features a score by eight-time Oscar winner Alan Menken, genius behind many of the world-famous songs from Disney movies, including The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and Enchanted. Lyrics are by Menken’s longtime collaborator, Glenn Slater. The show is based on the 1992 movie that starred Academy Award-winning actor and this production’s producer, Whoopi Goldberg.

Sister Act tells the hilarious story of Deloris Van Cartier, an aspiring diva whose life takes a surprising turn when she witnesses a crime and the cops hide her in the last place anyone would think to look—a convent.

Under the suspicious watch of Mother Superior, Deloris helps her fellow sisters find their voices as she unexpectedly rediscovers her own. A sensational story about the power of friendship, Sister Act is reason to rejoice. It is appropriate for all ages.

Tickets for this January 20 performance are available now online, or the Lively Arts’ tickets website. They can also be purchased at the Hadley Union Building ticket office on the IUP campus or by calling the HUB ticket office at (724) 357-1313.

Any seats remaining will be sold at the door starting one hour prior to the performance. Tickets are priced at $40 for regular admission, $34 for seniors and groups, and $18 for students and children.

The Ovations! series is funded, in part, by donations through the Premiere Club, business sponsorships, grants, and the IUP Student Cooperative Association. The Lively Arts, a program of the College of Fine Arts, presents nearly 200 performances, programs, and exhibits annually.
