An existing scholarship for anthropology students at IUP will now continue on in perpetuity, thanks to the generosity of the family of the university’s first anthropology faculty member.

On the eighth anniversary of her death, the family of Dr. Anja Olin-Fahle has endowed a scholarship fund within the Foundation for IUP that was created in her honor by colleagues, family, and friends. Endowment funds preserve perpetuity and generate scholarships through the interest they earn.

The Anja Olin-Fahle Award for Excellence has been presented and now will continue to be awarded to senior anthropology majors who retain a minimum grade point average of 3.25 and show dedication to the field of anthropology and inspire a respect for the field to other students.

Olin-Fahle joined the faculty in 1969 and taught 23 different courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels over her nearly 30-year tenure. She was a key figure in the creation of the Anthropology Department.
