Congratulations to Dan Peles, an MS Biology student (advisor, Vida Irani) who was recently awarded $500 in research grant funds from the Pennsylvania Academy of Science for his proposal, “Determining Mycobacterium avium Host Immune Response Evasion: Serovar 8 serovar-specific glycopeptidolipid (ssGPL) and Its Significance In Phagosome-Lysosome Fusion.”

Dan’s thesis research focus is on modulation of host-pathogen interaction in infectious diseases, in particular the host macrophage’s phagosome-lysosome fusion inhibition during Mycobacterium avium infection process.

Dan has presented his thesis research at 2014 forums, including IUP’s Graduate Scholars Forum (third place award), Commonwealth of Pennsylvania University Biologists annual meeting, and a podium and poster presentation at IUP’s inaugural Research Experience for Summer Scholars.
