The College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics invites you to a talk by Dr. John Gilly, senior vice president for Leidos Biomedical Research Inc. Gilly will present on “Responding to the Ebola Outbreak: Development of a New Ebola Virus Vaccine.”
The talk will be held on Thursday, October 23, at 2:00 p.m. in 247 Johnson Hall.
As director of the Vaccine Clinical Materials Program of SAIC-Frederick, Inc., Gilly (’79 IUP Biology) oversees the development of vaccines and biotherapeutic agents for protection against and treatment of HIV, influenza, and other emerging diseases and threats. SAIC-Frederick is a contractor supporting the National Institutes of Health.
At IUP, Gilly established the Young Life Scientist Opportunity Fund in Biology, designed to provide financial support to help students present their research at conferences.
Gilly holds a master’s degree in biochemistry from the University of Scranton and a PhD in molecular biology from Lehigh University. A Littlestown, Pa., resident, he received an IUP Distinguished Alumni Award in 2013 and is a member of the advisory board in the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics.
