The registration deadlines for the various classes, lessons, and ensembles offered through the IUP Community Music School have been extended.
Beginning its second year, the IUP Community Music School offers private lessons on all instruments with various levels of instructors, ensemble opportunities for children and adults, and piano and guitar classes.
For piano and guitar classes, the deadline to register has been extended to Monday, September 8, 2014. Classes for both will begin the same week as scheduled by the instructors. E-mail firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
For Musikgarten, the newest class offering by the IUP Community Music School, the deadline has also been extended through Monday, September 8. However, the instructor, Ashley Pappal, has indicated she can work with new registrants later into the semester if space remains available. Musikgarten is a wonderful program of instruction with its roots in the Kindermusik system and Montessori School. Using all-natural Musikgarten products, these Saturday morning classes guide a parent and child through a variety of music and movement activities designed to nurture the musical aptitude found in all children. The classes are Family Music for Babies (newborn–18 months); Family Music for Toddlers (18 months–3 years); and Cycle of Seasons (ages 3–5 years).
The deadlines for community ensembles (14 years old and above) are rolling as long as positions are available, and include the Indiana Community Choir and the Indiana Symphonic Winds. The first set of auditions for the Indiana Community Choir are from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Monday, September 8, and may be arranged with the director, Jon Erik Schreiber. The choir rehearses Mondays from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
The Indiana Symphonic Winds will hold its first auditions for new members from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 9, and rehearses from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesdays. An audition may be arranged by contacting the director, David Ferguson.
The Crimson Children’s Chorus will hold placement auditions from 4:45 to 6:00 p.m. on the Fridays of September 19 and 26. Rehearsals for the CCC will begin on October 3, from 4:45 to 6:00 p.m. This group is an excellent way for treble voices from grades three to eight to build a great musical foundation through singing. Auditions may be arranged by contacting the director, Jessica Zelenack.
The deadline for private lesson registration on all instruments is also rolling throughout the semester, with the minimum number of lessons being seven. There is also an instructor to fit every budget, ranging from only $12 for a half-hour lesson with an undergraduate music student to the various prices for an IUP faculty member.
