The University Museum at
Indiana University of Pennsylvania will host its annual gala event on Friday,
September 26, 2014, in John Sutton Hall.
Titled Hot Iron: A Victorian Industrial Fantasy, this year’s event is inspired
by the museum’s opening fall exhibition, Irons: Functional Tools to Art Objects.
The gala is showcasing the
exhibition, which features the Maureen A. Flaherty Post Collection of Irons and
Iron Related Objects and documents the social, cultural, and technological
impact of ironing from ancient times to the present.
irons and steam-powered inventions of the Victorian and Edwardian eras
suggested the gala’s “steampunk” theme. Steampunk is a modern science fiction
literary genre, modeled after the fantastical adventures of Jules Verne and H.
G. Wells. It has inspired a way of living and dressing that combines Victorian
and Edwardian fashion with accessories for the types of adventures inspired by
the works of Verne and Wells. Our gala takes a light-hearted approach to
steampunk, and everyone attending is invited to join in this spirited evening.
This catered event will begin
with a reception in the University Museum and continues in the Blue Room for dining, live
entertainment, live and silent auctions, and dancing. Proceeds from the gala
support the University Museum’s admission-free exhibitions, public educational
programming and lectures, and conservation of art objects.
Reservations, requested by
September 16, are required and cost $125 per person. The invitation and
reservation card are both available online for download. Additional information is also available
by contacting Leslie Kluchurosky at the University Museum at 724-357-2397 or email@example.com.

The theme for this year’s annual University Museum Gala will be steam-punk. Celebrate the intrepid Victorians who didn’t let full skirts, pleats, and starched collars impede their daring exploits! Attendees are asked to indulge their steam-punk fashion fantasies by dressing for the theme.
This event is over.
