Department of Art faculty member Sean Derry has been commissioned to premier a new sculpture at the 2014 Pittsburgh Biennial. Derry’s artwork will be on display through November 2 at the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts.

The Pittsburgh Biennial is the largest survey of regional contemporary art in Western Pennsylvania. Beginning in July, seven institutions—including the Andy Warhol Museum, Carnegie Museum of Art, Mattress Factory, the Miller Gallery at Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh Center for the Arts, Pittsburgh Glass Center, Pittsburgh Filmmakers, and the SPACE Gallery—will present the work of emerging and established contemporary artists working in Western Pennsylvania.

Derry’s contribution to the exhibition includes a salvaged vacuum cleaner sealed inside a hand-quilted, clear vinyl inflatable. Watch a video of the artwork in operation.
