Keystone Repertory Theater, a summer theater in residence at IUP, presents the award-winning Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street Thursday–Saturday, July 31–August 2, at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, August 3, at 2:00 p.m. at Indiana Theater, 637 Philadelphia Street, Indiana.

This bloodthirsty musical centers around the wrongfully imprisoned Sweeney Todd. A barber by trade, he returns to London ready to seek revenge on those who took away everything he loved, including his daughter Joanna.

With an epic score and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and a haunting book by Hugh Wheeler, this wildly popular story takes the audience on a tour of the underbelly of London’s back streets. Due to its violent content, it is not recommended for younger children.

The production is directed by KRT artistic director Nick Hrutkay (IUP ’11). The cast includes nine IUP students and alumni.

Tickets are available now online, and at the Hadley Union Building Box Office located in the Hadley Union Building on the IUP campus. Tickets can also be purchased by calling 724-357-1313. Additional information is available on the Sweeney Todd web page, on the Lively Arts’ Facebook page, or by calling the Lively Arts at 724-357-2787 (ARTS).

In addition to Hrutkay, KRT management includes longtime Indiana resident Cheryl Randal serving as managing director. It is produced by IUP’s Department of Theater and Dance and funded, in part, by the Student Cooperative Association along with sponsors and private donations.
