Mark Staszkiewicz, Educational and School Psychology
Department, presented on a panel of faculty
with the assistant to the president for Social Equity to discuss faculty diversity
at IUP on Wednesday, April 16, 2014.
The panel consisted of members from the
departments of Sociology, Nursing and Allied Health, Theater and Dance, and Educational
and School Psychology.
The panel discussion
explored topics related to diversity, social equality and inclusion form a variety
of disciplinary perspectives. They specifically focused on how colleagues,
departments, and the university will go about recruitment and retention of
diverse faculty members here at the university.
Information was provided to
inform about incentives, initiatives, and practices that could help departments
at the university attract historically underrepresented faculty to apply for
tenure track positions. Discussion also involved current programs that are in place to
help retain the talent once hired.
