Graduate students enrolled in the Multicultural and Diversity Issues in Counseling class recently had the privilege of meeting with Dan McCoy, a member of the 2014 Paralympic Sled Hockey Team. Team USA won the Gold Medal with a 1-0 win over the host team Russia.
Dan was born with spina bifida and hydrocephalus. At the age of six, he began playing sled hockey and had a dream of one day being on the Olympic team.
He shared his life journey of growing up with a disability and his quest for the gold medal. His mother, Angela McCoy, also discussed her experiences as an advocate and parent of a child with a disability. It was an honor to have them at IUP.
