Lorraine Guth was one of ten counseling professionals from the United States selected to be a part of the Malawi Counseling Institute, sponsored by the National Board for Certified Counselors.
Guth conducted the presentations “Wellness and Self-Care for Counselors” and “Enhancing Basic and Advanced Counseling Skills” during the institute. In addition, Guth worked with the Guidance, Counseling, and Youth Development Centre for Africa, where she provided consultation and direct service in four primary schools. She also had the privilege to meet the President of Malawi, Joyce Banda, during the trip. After returning to the United States, Guth shared this experience with counseling students at IUP as well as elementary students at several local schools.
She is very grateful to the IUP University Senate Research Committee, the dean of the College of Education and Educational Technology, and the chairperson of the Department of Counseling who provided support for this initiative.
