IUP’s College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics will welcome back to campus two Distinguished Alumni, Dr. Thomas O’Dell and Col. Andrew C. Peters, on Friday, April 11, 2014.
During Friday’s visit to campus, Dr. O’Dell will meet with faculty and current students to talk about his career and his research program. Please join us on Friday, April 11 at 2:00 p.m. in 127 Weyandt Hall. Thomas O’Dell graduated from IUP in 1983 with a BA in Psychology, and went on to pursue a very successful research and teaching career in higher education. Dr. O’Dell is currently professor and interim chair of the Department of Physiology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. His research is on cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying learning and memory.
During his visit to campus, Col. Peters will meet with the ROTC Cadre and students, and on Friday, April 11 he will give a talk on “Resilience” at 1:25 p.m. in the Susquehanna Room at the HUB. Col. Andrew C. Peters left IUP as a Distinguished Military Graduate in 1988. During his 25 years of distinguished service in the military, Col. Peters served in Operation Desert Shield, Operation Desert Storm, and was wounded during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Advancing through military ranks, Col. Peters eventually attended the National War College, graduating in 2011 and now serves as Commander of the 595th Transportation Brigade. Recognized with numerous distinguished service awards, Col. Peters was awarded the Purple Heart and twice the Bronze Star Medal, and the 2013 Legion of Merit Award.
