IUP’s Department of Music and the Department of Theater and Dance will
present The Girl In White in the Zink Hall Dance Theater, April 4-5, 2014, at 7:00
p.m. and April 6 at 2:00 p.m. The performance is part of the IUP Dance Theater and Sound Choices series.
This production will present two stories, The Girl In White
and Las Apariencias engañan, and feature the music of noted composer Robert
Bradshaw. Both stories are rooted
in Mexican folklore brought to life through dance and live music.
The Girl In White tells the story of a vain young man’s
willingness to give up all that is in his life to pursue his passion for a
woman, only to find that all is not what it seems.
The original story of Las Apariencias engañan takes place in the
“Ages of Darkness.” This
performance is a contemporary adaptation that unfolds in the present day office
as the workers strive to convince their boss to allow individual creativity
into the workplace.
Internationally acclaimed composer Robert Bradshaw’s music is
frequently heard in concert halls around the world from Australia to Lincoln
Center. Commissions and recordings have been supported by leading arts funders
such as the National Endowment for the Arts, Aaron Copland Fund for Music, and
New England’s Music Drive U.S. Foundation.
Bradshaw’s music explores and expresses emotions associated with
social, historic, and contemporary issues and events. He has written works for
opera, ballet, and orchestras along with a long list of chamber and solo
