Lynda Federoff, a faculty member in the Department of Psychology, died on Sunday, November 17, 2013, following a battle with cancer. Federoff began work at IUP in August 1999, following her training in clinical psychology.

Federoff demonstrated an extraordinary willingness to volunteer for any departmental need, and she was consistently viewed by both her colleagues and her students as an enthusiastic, energetic, and very talented professor. As an instructor, Federoff took great delight in making her extensive knowledge available to both undergraduate and doctoral students in a variety of courses, and she taught more courses than any other faculty member in the history of the Psychology Department. Federoff is also remembered as an innovative clinical scientist and clinician who mentored many undergraduate honors students and doctoral students in research and who supervised doctoral students in psychological assessment and therapy.

Federoff’s contributions to the department’s service activities were also extensive. She took on with zest many daunting tasks, such as managing the department’s process for research with human participants and revitalizing the department’s chapter of the international student honorary society in psychology, Psi Chi. Federoff also made her skills available to the larger Indiana community through her work with gifted high school students, her provision of on-call services and mental health interventions for the American Red Cross, and her work as a service provider for Indiana Regional Medical Center.
Federoff is survived by a daughter, Taralyn, a senior anthropology and political science double major at IUP.

Family and friends will receive visitors on Wednesday, November 20, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the John A. Lefdahl Funeral Home, 898 Old Route 119 North. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, November 21, at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas More University Parish, 1200 Oakland Avenue.
