The Daniel and Diane Griffith Geography and Mathematics Scholarship at IUP has received a boost, thanks to a pledge of support from its namesake.

Daniel Griffith ’70, M’72 and his wife, Diane, established the scholarship several years ago to benefit students who pursue degrees in geography and mathematics. Their recent $72,000 commitment will ensure students will continue to benefit from their generosity.

An expert in spatial statistics, Daniel Griffith is an Ashbel Smith Professor at the University of Texas at Dallas. A recipient of the IUP Distinguished Alumni Award, he also holds an honorary doctoral degree from IUP. Griffith was named a Guggenheim Fellow in 2001 and was first listed in Who’s Who in the World in 2002.

“The Griffiths' continued commitment to our students ensures a bright future for many. It is an endorsement of the quality of our programs in mathematics and geography, and we are most grateful to have their investment,” said Bill Speidel, IUP’s vice president for University Advancement.

Students who wish in inquire about the scholarship should contact the Department of Geography and Regional Planning.
