Biology Seminar on Aquatic Pesticides, December 3

Posted on 11/12/2013 11:55:02 AM

Jessica Hua, a graduate student from the the University of Pittsburgh, will visit IUP to present a seminar entitled “It’s a Complicated World: An Ecological and Evolutionary Look at Pesticides in Aquatic Systems.”

She will discuss:

  1. How a deadly insecticide mixture can "positively" affect amphibians.
  2. How some amphibian populations can tolerate multiple insecticides.
  3. How exposure to insecticides early in development can be beneficial later in life.
  4. How low levels of insecticides can lead to the evolution of insecticide resistance through phenotypic plasticity.

The seminar will take place at 6:00 p.m. on December 3 in Weyandt Hall, room 32.

This event is offered as a part of the Biology Seminar Series and is sponsored by the Biology Graduate Student Association. The event is open to the IUP community and to the public; all are welcome to attend.
