Katie Shoemaker, graduate student in the Department of
Student Affairs in Higher Education and graduate assistant-residential
sustainability educator for the Office of Housing, Residential Living, and
Dining, received the David A. DeCoster Excellence in Assessment Award. The
award recognizes an outstanding assessment project completed by a member of the
Student Affairs Division.
Shoemaker’s project, titled “Residential Energy Project,”
focused on encouraging students to recognize the effects of their actions and
connect classroom learning to their residential experiences. The project
was assessed using feedback from student organization members and the
Residential Energy Project committee, EBI results, and energy consumption data.
The award was presented by Rhonda Luckey, vice president for
Student Affairs, at a Student Affairs Division workshop on November 8, 2013, in
the PNC Room of the Kovalchick Complex.
David DeCoster served as vice president for Student Affairs
and as a faculty member in the Department of Student Affairs in Higher
Education during his tenure at IUP.
