James G. Mill Fitness Center 2013 Exercise Around the World Wellness Challenge

Join us and other challengers to meet physical activity recommendations of the Centers for Disease Prevention and the American College of Sports Medicine. 

Challenge GlobeThe goal is to be moderately to vigorously physically active for 150 minutes each week, which is 30 minutes at least five days of the week; or vigorously physically active for 75 minutes each week, which is 20 minutes at least four times each week. Any type of activity that increases your breathing rate and lasts for at least 10 minutes at a time counts as physical activity, inside or outside of the fitness center.

Each minute of moderate to vigorous physical activity counts as 10 miles. As you earn mileage, your name will be placed with the country you’ve earned enough miles to “visit.” With an average of 60 minutes of activity five days of the week, you could exercise all the way around the world! At the end of the challenge, total minutes of physical activity will be calculated to determine how many times the recommended 150 minutes of exercise was achieved for an entire week. For each set of 150 minutes, a token will be entered into a drawing for one of two gift baskets, including two $25 apparel gift cards, a free personal training session, five-day guest passes, a James G. Mill t-shirt, and other items to help you in your quest for health and fitness.

So far, we have 15 challengers competing to see who can make it the farthest around the world or be the first to exercise all the way around the world. It’s not too late to sign up! Sign up any time in the  James G. Mill Fitness Center on the second floor of Zink Hall by December 2. Exercise logs are asked to be turned in the week of December 9. The challenge officially ends on Friday, December 13. Gift basket winners will be announced Monday, December 16.
