Student Affairs in Higher Education Remembers David DeCoster

David DeCosterDavid DeCoster died after an extended illness in Lady Lake, Florida, on October 28, 2013.

DeCoster served as vice president for Student Affairs at IUP from 1985–1994 and then as professor in the Department of Student Affairs in Higher Education until his retirement in 1999.

DeCoster was a respected and committed educator and administrator who established a renowned national reputation resulting from his scholarly contributions, his work in professional associations, and numerous consultantships. Prior to his tenure at IUP, DeCoster held administrative positions at the University of Georgia, University of Florida, Indiana University at Bloomington, and the University of Nebraska.

Affectionately known as “Dave” or “DAD” (from his initials), he was a wonderful mentor and an inspiration to young and seasoned professionals within higher education, especially within the field of student affairs.
