In celebration of International Archaeology Day and Pennsylvania Archaeology Month, the Anthropology Department hosted an Archaeology Open House.

The event was attended by approximately 30 people and was hosted by 12 graduate students, undergraduates, and faculty. The open house included artifact displays, geophysical equipment demonstrations, videos of field work, and a demonstration of how to recover small artifacts using a flotation machine. There was also a demonstration of both cutting edge (3-dimensional scanner) and ancient (spear thrower with cane spear) technologies. Posters based on recent student work and light refreshments rounded out the successful day.
If you are interested in other Pennsylvania Archaeology Month events, a calendar of events can be found on the Society for Pennsylvania Archaeology website.
