Demond Mullins and Michele Sandhoff, assistant professors of Sociology at IUP, as well as Brandon Vick, assistant professor of Economics at IUP, have recently been appointed to research associate positions at the Mid-Atlantic Addiction Research and Training Institute (MARTI).

These three new research associates are joining MARTI in order to collaborate with existing research associates and affiliated faculty on an interdisciplinary project approved by the President’s Research Cluster Initiative called the Veterans’ Reintegration Research Cluster, which is being spearheaded by Christian Vaccaro, MARTI research associate and assistant professor of Sociology at IUP.

The Veterans’ Reintegration Research Cluster aims to provide innovative research insights for therapeutic and preventive interventions that will lead to a reduction in a variety of reintegration issues for veterans such as college dropout, unemployment, homelessness, substance abuse, domestic violence, divorce, and mental health problems.

The research cluster members are currently spearheading several pilot projects that will be used to develop reliable and valid instruments for larger quantitative and qualitative external grant funded studies.
