The IUP Bands’ annual Homecoming concert will feature Mark Ford, coordinator of percussion activities at the University of North Texas, in one of his own compositions, “Stubernick Fantasy,” with the IUP Wind Ensemble. Featured soloists with Ford will be music graduate students Shane Velsor and Tyler Kulp, both students of Michael Kingan.
In addition to his duties at UNT, Ford is past president of the Percussive Arts Society. He is a marimba specialist and the coordinator of one of the largest percussion programs in the United States at UNT. Ford is an active performer on the marimba and he has been featured throughout the United States at universities and music conferences. He also regularly performs at international music festivals in South America, Asia, Australia, and Europe.
The concert will also feature two world premieres: “The Descending Blue” by Daniel French (Wind Ensemble) and “UP!” (Symphony Band) by IUP alumnus Anthony O’Toole. Additional works will be by Gustav Holst, Ralph Vaughan Williams, and Clifton Williams.
The concert takes place on Sunday, October 6, 2013, at 3:00 p.m. in Fisher Auditorium of the IUP Performing Arts Center. Tickets are available at the door.
