Kipp Exhibit Spotlights Collaboration

Posted on 8/29/2013 8:30:55 AM

Kipp Gallery will open its touring exhibit season with We Two Founts: Larson and Mitchell. Opening September 12, 2013, it  will run through October 10.

A public opening reception and artist talk will be held September 12 at 5:00 in the gallery, which is located on the first floor of Sprowls Hall on the IUP campus.

The exhibition, presented by the Department of Art, showcases the collaborative work of sculptor and video artist Derek Larson and painter Marc Mitchell. The exhibit addresses how we as American consumers navigate the landscape. Each day, there are signs to follow, symbols to consume, people to text, and images to take in.

Characters and symbols freely move throughout this multimedia exhibition of sculptural video and painting. Both artists attempt to meet in the middle where codes of written and painterly language join hands with representations of figures and place.

Larson, a resident of Seattle, received his degrees from Yale and the Herron School at Indiana University. Mitchell holds degrees from Boston University and the University of Tampa and has exhibited extensively across the U.S.

Exhibit hours are Tuesdays through Fridays from noon until 4:00 p.m., and admission is free.
