Guest Pianist from Thailand Joins IUP Cellist for Recital

Chindarat Charoenwongs and Linda JenningsPianist Chindarat Charoenwongs of Thailand will join IUP faculty member Linda Jennings, cello, in a free recital on Tuesday, September 3, 2013, at 8:00 p.m. The recital will be performed in Gorell Recital Hall, located on the second floor of John Sutton Hall.

The pair will perform standard and new works for cello and piano, including works by American composers and highlighting works composed specifically for Jennings and Charoenwongse. These new works include “Serenade” by retired IUP professor Daniel Perlongo, “Cello Dance” by Samuel Magrill, and “Dances with Leaves” by Keith White. The program will also include works by Samuel Barber and Clara Rogers.

Charoenwongse (pictured, left) studied in Bangkok, Thailand, receiving a Bachelor of Fine and Applied Arts in piano performance with first class honors from Chulalongkorn University and a Performer’s Diploma from Trinity College of Music.

She came to the Eastman School of Music on a Fulbright fellowship where she received a Master of Music degree. She also has a Doctor of Musical Arts in piano performance and pedagogy from the University of Oklahoma.

She has performed internationally, including concerto performances for Her Royal Highness Princess Galayani Vaddhana and His Majesty the King of Thailand. She currently is professor of piano at the University of Central Oklahoma.
