John Wesley Lowery, Department of Student Affairs in Higher Education, will be promoted to full professor effective Fall 2013.

Promotion to full professor rank requires that the applicant demonstrate a record of excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service.

The SAHE Department Promotion Committee, in their unanimous and strong support for Lowery’s application for promotion, described Lowery as an excellent instructor who is dedicated to the preparation and socialization of the next generation of student affairs professionals. The committee affirmed that Lowery has achieved a distinguished record of scholarship that is recognized nationally for its relevance, timeliness, quality, and enduring value. Finally, the committee recognized Lowery’s dedicated contributions to higher education at the departmental, college, and national levels through which he models for students the importance of service.

The SAHE department recommendation, combined with uniformly positive recommendations from the dean, the University-Wide Promotion Committee, and the provost were endorsed by President Michael Driscoll in his decision to promote Lowery.

Lowery was hired at the rank of associate professor in 2008. He was elected to department chair in 2012 and earned tenure in May 2013.
