John McCarthy, professor in the Department of Counseling, has been renamed as an International Scholar in the International Academic Fellowship Program (AFP) for the 2013–2014 academic year. The program is part of the International Higher Education Support Program of the Open Society Foundations. This will mark the fifth consecutive year that McCarthy has participated in the program.
The program aids in the advancement of higher education within the humanities and social sciences in South Eastern Europe, the former Soviet Union, (excluding the Baltic states), and Mongolia. It was launched in 2004.
In this capacity, McCarthy will be continuing his work with the Direction of Psychology at Tbilisi State University, an institution of approximately 19,000 students in the capital city of Tbilisi, Georgia. Prior to consulting in Georgia, he participated in AFP, working in Armenia for three years.
