In the final weeks of the fiscal year, IUP is making a final push to garner more philanthropic support from alumni and friends.
This year’s goal of obtaining gifts from 9,488 individual people is close. As of Monday, June 17, 2013, IUP had gifts through the Foundation for IUP from 9,076 donors. Through their annual support, IUP donors are providing students with enriched programs, up-to-date equipment and technology, and scholarships that enhance their educational experiences, according to Emily Smeltz, director of Annual Giving.
“We have more than 101,000 living alumni, and if just a few of them give between now and the end of our fiscal year, which is June 30, we’ll meet our goal. I hope when alumni read this, they might think, ‘Hey, I just might be the one who makes that magic number happen,’” Smeltz said.
By magic number, Smeltz referred to the residual effect of what might happen if that record number of donors is met. Reaching a record number of 9,488 annual donors could make IUP eligible to receive a greater allocation of performance funding from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
“To all those who already have made an annual gift to IUP, I want you to know our students, our faculty, and the entire university family are most grateful,” Smeltz said. “We appreciate your support—and your endorsement of the power of an IUP education.”
