Students and Alumna Honored at Student Affairs in Higher Education Departmental Commencement

Several students and an alumna from the Department of Student Affairs in Higher Education (SAHE) were honored for exceptional accomplishments and contributions as part of the department’s Commencement 2013 events.

  • Lauren Gigler (’14) received the Get Involved! SAHE Leadership Award and a $250 scholarship established by Erin Baker and Tom Baker ’05 of Baker Leadership.
  • Michael Mastalski (’13) received the Outstanding Scholar Award for academic achievement and ability to enhance the learning environment for his colleagues.
  • Allison Shumar (’13) received the S. Trevor Hadley Outstanding Student Award for her academic accomplishments and significant service to the campus and the community.

Awards were presented at the SAHE annual banquet on Thursday, May 16.

Sarah Fiore (’13) was chosen to give the address at the SAHE commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 18. SAHE students and faculty annually select the department commencement speaker on the basis of oratory excellence and ability to represent their classmates.

Also present at the Commencement ceremony was Virginia Koch (’86), who shared some remarks with the graduates after being presented with the Ronald Lunardini Distinguished Alumni Award. Koch is currently the associate director of Residential Services at Northwestern University.
