While any occasion is a good one to celebrate the successes of the IUP chapter of Phi Eta Sigma, this past week brought especially good news for a number of its members.
The IUP chapter of the national honor society Phi Eta Sigma welcomed its new inductees in a ceremony held on April 21, 2013, in Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex. N. Bharathan, professor of Biology, organized and hosted this annual event. Krys Kaniasty, professor of Psychology, was the keynote speaker. Ray Winstead, professor of Biology, was also invited to speak during the afternoon ceremony. In his address, Winstead asked the students to consider answers to important questions about education, integrity, and intelligence. His address was certain to inspire those in attendance (the full text of Winstead’s address is available for review).
The induction ceremony was followed by more to celebrate: Bharathan received news this week that two students from the IUP chapter of Phi Eta Sigma (current chapter president Kristen Erickson and chapter president-elect Hannah Cornman) were each awarded a Phi Eta Sigma national scholarship in the amount of $6,000.
Congratulations to Kristen, Hannah, and all of the new chapter members!
