Students in Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s chapters of the American Society of Interior Designers and the International Interior Design Organization will hold a “Chair-ity Design” contest April 15 to benefit several local nonprofit organizations.

Over the past month, 13 IUP clubs and organizations have redesigned used chairs to represent their identities and the organizations for which they are actively fundraising. The groups were required to use something recycled in the chair’s design.

The decorated chairs will be displayed beginning at 6 p.m. in the Hadley Union Building Susquehanna Room.

Competing groups are Alpha Gamma Delta, supporting Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation; Two Amigos; Delta Psi Epsilon Christian Sorority, supporting Soles4Souls; the National Art Association; the Environmentally Conscious Organization, supporting the Indiana County Humane Society; Kappa Sigma, supporting the Military Heroes Campaign; the International Interior Design Organization, supporting the American Cancer Society; the Men of God Christian Fraternity; Delta Zeta, supporting The Painted Turtle; Theta Phi Alpha, supporting Glenmary Home Missioners; the Fashion Association, supporting the Alice Paul House; and two groups from Family Consumer Sciences Education, supporting the Boys & Girls Club.

Attendees may purchase tickets at the door to vote for their favorite chair. The group with the most votes will receive additional funds toward its chosen charity, but non-winning groups will receive part of the proceeds for their charities as well.
