Ronald Horner, assistant professor and Percussion faculty member in the Department of Music, presented a master class on April 1, 2013, at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. The class, on melodic pedal technique for timpani, was based upon ideas and studies developed by Horner in his text, The Tuneful Timpanist.
This method book has been widely adopted throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe, including its utilization at Curtis and here at IUP. Horner has presented similar classes at various universities over the past few years. A 1978 graduate of IUP, Horner currently serves as timpanist for the Westmoreland Symphony, Johnstown Symphony, and the IUP Keystone Winds.
