Theater-by-the-Grove and Music Theater at Indiana University of Pennsylvania are combining to present their production of You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown. Based on the comic strip Peanuts by Charles M. Schulz, the production will be performed March 6–9, 2013, at 8:00 p.m., with a matinee offered on Sunday, March 10, at 2:00 p.m. Performances will be presented on the Waller Hall Mainstage in the IUP Performing Arts Center.

Music and lyrics of this award-winning family show are by Clark Gesner with additional dialogue by Michael Mayer and additional music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa. It is directed by theater faculty member Jeannie-Marie Brown with musical direction by music professor Sarah Mantel.

A revised version of the 1967 classic, this two-act musical follows an average challenging day in the life of the Peanuts Gang as they experience the simple happiness of life, all through the lens of childhood. Audience members will be taken on this trip by Charlie, Sally, Linus, Lucy, Schroeder, and Snoopy as they navigate their way through their philosophies, adventures, and friendships to discover how to find the simplicity of life.

According to director Brown, “The beauty of this production is how the cast has brought new depth and humanity to these classic characters. By opening themselves up to the great emotional span of the musical, the actors have given the show new breath and have created a piece that recaptures the little joys of childhood while allowing us to embrace all of the things that make adulthood so enjoyable.”

Brown continues to explain, “What it really shows us is the beauty of when we open up our hearts to happiness, simplicity, and love. This cast has created a sense of nostalgia that is truly wonderful to behold.”

Tickets for You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown are available in advance at the Hadley Union Building, located on Pratt Drive of the IUP campus. Tickets are also available online at IUP Tickets. Seats remaining will be sold at the door starting 45 minutes before each performance.
