Eberly students who are undeclared majors received firsthand advice from a recruiter on majors, internships, and resume building at the Undeclared Majors Event hosted by the Society for Human Resource Management on November 27, 2012.
Daniel Mormak, talent acquisition supervisor for PLS Logistics Services, Cranberry, Pa., talked with several dozen students about building their resume by joining clubs as well as the importance of choosing a major soon.
In addition to Mormak, Management professor Mike Kosicek and assistant dean Dorothy Gracey, and Eberly students shared their insights. Each club within College of Business Student Advisory Council was represented by an officer. Representatives included Matt Wilking, Cory Ireland, Julie Perri, Erin Puko, Kyle Heckelman, Sarah Stone, Rich Widdowson, Anthony Flowers, Marlee Clevenger, Megan Moulden, and Jessica Shaw.
"The event not only was an informal way to talk about majors, but it was great to hear stories about uncertainty in college that many people can relate to," said Puko, COBSAC president.
"As a student graduating in May, I not only felt like we helped at least one person pick a major, but I also learned a lot about my peers," Puko said. Puko and her peers made great strides during the event to help undecided students with their futures.
SHRM plans to hold another event similar to this in the future, continuously providing students with opportunities to expand their knowledge of careers and get involved at IUP.
