An 8mm color film of the 1936 IUP Commencement Procession was donated to the IUP Special Collections Library and University Archives by Martha Russell, who recorded event. This is a rare example of the many different audio and visual recordings that are part of the Stapleton Library collections.

Although the film is only 30 seconds long, how often do you see a color film of Indiana State Teachers College (ISTC) in 1936? It features the students, administration, and faculty of Indiana State Teachers College processing from John Sutton Hall. ISTC President Charles Foster and former Indiana State Normal School Principal John Keith are both in the film.

IUP was known as Indiana State Teachers College from 1927 to 1959.

The film is part of Record Group 35 Commencement Activities and is housed in the Special Collections and University Archives in Stapleton Library Room 302.

The 8mm color film was restored and digitized by the New Day Group. You can access the 1936 Commencement Procession through Windows Media Player.
