IUP Writing Center tutor Emily Weber, an English and Journalism major, was one of five students in the nation selected for a scholarship from the International Foodservice Editorial Council (IFEC).

The IFEC is a nonprofit, individual membership association of 250 communications professionals working in the foodservice industry media. Since the scholarship program began in 1990, the IFEC has awarded more than 100 scholarships to students in communications, journalism, or public relations programs.

Weber received the award for her writing experience, including writing and editing an e-book for a company that handles publicity for Italian chef/author Maria Liberati, and self-publishing an e-book for the Amazon Kindle. She also has foodservice experience working as a dietary aid in a nursing home.

Weber is currently the communications manager for the Writing Center and a student writer in the Office of Media Relations.

The scholarship committee included foodservice editorial professionals from School Nutrition Magazine and Torme Lauricella, a San Francisco-based marketing and public relations firm.
