I am excited about the start of a new academic year, along with our faculty, staff, and administrators who are working with you to support your success at IUP! Follow me on Twitter: @Dr_Luckey

Dear IUP Students,

Be Informed

  • Regularly check IUP News and Events, the Penn, and the Beak, IUP’s daily e-mail newsletter for students. Residential students should preview IUP TV Channel 17 to find information about upcoming events.
  • Attend IUP’s popular program, the Six O’clock Series, every Monday.
  • Watch for and participate in events addressing racial, cultural, multicultural, and diversity topics. Check out the African American Cultural Center.

Stay Focused and Safe

  • Walk on designated sidewalks.
  • Stay alert and fully aware of your surroundings.
  • At night, walk with your friends, or ask University Police for an escort.
  • Program your cell phone to dial 911 and University Police Dispatch phone number 724-357-2141.
  • Call University Police on the Blue Light Phones located throughout campus to report an emergency and/or ask for help.
  • Register for IUP’s text Emergency Alerts by logging on to URSA. After registering, you will be informed immediately if there is a university emergency.
  • Keep your suite and room doors locked, and don’t allow nonresidents into the secured sections of the suites and other residential buildings.
  • Support violence prevention. Visit the information tables during the Green Light Campaign, and watch for the events planned the week leading up to RAINN (Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network) Day on September 27, 2012.
  • Avoid getting the flu. Check out the IUP Health Service for flu prevention practices.
  • If you chose to use alcohol, be sure your choices are legal and low risk. Learn more at ATOD Program.

Get Involved and Engaged

  • Become an active student leader, mentor, or volunteer and maximize your experience as an IUP student.
  • Attend the sixth annual IUP Day on Saturday, September 8, located by Delaney/Putt suites courtyard. Learn about recognized student organizations and community involvement. Meet IUP’s President, Dr. Mike Driscoll, as he scoops ice cream cones between noon and 2:00 p.m.

Success at IUP happens when you are informed, focused, involved, and engaged.

Throughout the semester, if you have questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to seek out the assistance of faculty, staff, and administrators, or, if you’re not sure who to ask, send an e-mail to iup-hawks@iup.edu. Someone from the university will be back in touch within 24 hours.

I look forward to our sharing a productive year together.
