Beginning Tuesday, September 4, students can get help with writing assignments at the new IUP Writing Center satellite in Stapleton Library in addition to the Writing Center at 218 Eicher Hall.
The satellite is located just past the Reference Desk on the first floor of Stapleton. It will be staffed by two peer tutors from 8:00 to 11:00 p.m., Monday–Thursday, and 5:00 to 10:00 p.m., Sunday. No appointment is needed.
“Since the library is where many students study and do their research, it will be helpful for them to have writing tutors as well as reference librarians readily available,” said Professor Ben Rafoth, director of the Writing Center.
Tutors will have a library-issued laptop in order to find online materials such as style and documentation guides, according to Luis Gonzalez, dean of IUP Libraries.
As always, students are encouraged to bring their paper, assignment, syllabus, and any notes or outlines. Tutors will send a faculty report upon the student’s request.
The satellite is a collaboration of the Writing Center, IUP Libraries, and the College of Humanities and Social Sciences.
