The College of Education and Educational Technology is proud to recognize Shirley Johnson, assistant professor in the Department of Professional Studies in Education, for being selected by the New Pittsburgh Courier to receive the 2012 Women of Excellence award for her professional accomplishments and commitment to Pittsburgh.
Each year, the New Pittsburgh Courier recognizes 50 women who have been nominated for their professional accomplishments and commitment to Pittsburgh. This is a great honor for Johnson and the College of Education and Educational Technology, as it recognizes her contributions to the field of education, her community service, and her mentoring of others.
Johnson’s accomplishments will be acknowledged in a special commemorative issue of the Courier that will be published on June 27. She will also be recognized at an awards luncheon held on June 28 at the Westin Convention Center Hotel’s main ballroom. This award reflects the positive impact that IUP faculty and alumni have on the Pittsburgh community.
Johnson joins fellow IUP alumna Gale Edwards, who received this award previously.
We congratulate Shirley Johnson as one of this year’s honorees and encourage her to continue her hard work and dedication in reshaping the Pittsburgh region.
