Waller Hall

Keystone Repertory Theater, IUP’s summer Theater-by-the-Grove, will offer a charmingly quirky summer season this year. Originally scheduled to start May 18, the first production had to be cancelled. The season will now start on June 1, 2012.

These student-directed productions will be held in Waller Hall on both the Mainstage and Studio theaters of IUP’s Performing Arts Center.

The season will begin with The Goat or, Who Is Sylvia? by Pulitzer Prize-winner Edward Albee—his most provocative, daring, and controversial play. When Martin, a successful architect who has just turned 50, confides to his best friend that he is in love with a goat, events are set in motion that will destroy his ideal life with his loving wife and gay teenage son.

Performances will be held June 1 and 2, at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, June 3, at 2:00 p.m., also in the Studio Theater.

July brings Next to Normal. This award-winning smash hit musical is a heart-swelling and devastatingly painful dissection of a mother’s mental illness and her suburban family’s struggle to keep their world intact.

Performances will be held on the Waller Hall Mainstage July 27 and 28, at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, July 29, at 2:00 p.m.

Closing out the KRT in August is the highly popular Broadway hit Avenue Q. A laugh-out-loud musical in high Muppet style, Avenue Q tells the story of a recent college graduate who moves into a shabby New York apartment all the way out on Avenue Q. He soon discovers that, although the residents seem nice, this is not your ordinary neighborhood, while the audience immediately recognizes this is not your ordinary musical.

This mutli-award-winning musical will be presented August 10 and 11 at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, August 12, at 2:00 p.m. on the Waller Hall Mainstage.

All productions contain language and situations to which some audience members may object and are not appropriate for younger children.

Tickets will be available in advance at the Hadley Union Building, located on Pratt Drive of the IUP campus, approximately 10 days prior to the first show. Tickets will also be sold at the door starting 45 minutes before the performance. Tickets are $7 regular admission, $6 for senior citizens and groups of 15 or more, and $4 with a university I-Card.
