Area professional school counselors are invited to the ninth annual School Counselor Professional Development Day on Friday, December 16, 2011, from 8:30 a.m.–3:00 p.m. at Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex. The event is sponsored by the IUP College of Education and Educational Technology.
The Professional Development Day is an event aimed at recognizing and honoring the work of professional school counselors throughout western Pennsylvania. Nearly one hundred school counselors attended the event last year.
The theme for the event this year is “Current Issues in School Counseling: Proving our Worth.” The morning segment will feature a panel of school counselors discussing contemporary challenges. This will be followed by breakout sessions conducted by Counseling Department faculty and students. Such workshops will address the topics of relational aggression, adolescent depression, career issues with students with disabilities, and school-to-work standards.
The afternoon segment will be highlighted by a focused presentation on “Proving our Worth,” and the closing will be done by Ms. Stephanie McHugh, an IUP Counseling Cepartment alumna and guidance supervisor at Baldwin High School.
The event is free of charge, and lunch is provided. All area professional school counselors are invited to attend, and individuals can register by calling the Department of Counseling at 724-357-2306. The deadline is Friday, December 9.
More information about the event can also be obtained by contacting the Department of Counseling at 724-357-2306.
