Downing Appointed to MLA Academic Freedom Committee

David B. Downing, director of graduate studies in Literature and Criticism, was appointed by the executive committee of the Modern Language Association to serve a three-year term, beginning July 1, 2011, on the Committee for Academic Freedom and Professional Rights and Responsibilities.

On October 19–21, 2011, he attended the annual CAFPRR meeting at MLA headquarters in NYC.

Downing has also been appointed to the three-person subcommittee to draft the MLA policy on academic freedom.
