On Saturday, November 12, 2011, at 8:00 p.m., the Department of Music will present a special concert featuring a Broadway review. The concert combines the IUP Music Theater students and the University Wind Ensemble. It will be performed in Fisher Auditorium, IUP Performing Arts Center.
The combined forces are directed by Sarah Mantel and Mary Logan Hastings and conducted by Jack Stamp.
Musicals represented in the review include My Fair Lady, West Side Story, Fiddler on the Roof, South Pacific, and Showboat.
The first half of the concert features the Wind Ensemble in performances of the music of John Williams, W. A. Mozart, and Karel Husa. Featured soloist on the first half will be student vocalist Samantha Wood. The ensemble will also perform “Music for Prague 1968” by Pulitzer prize-winning composer Karel Husa. The work depicts the striving for freedom and the Russia invasion of Czechoslovakia.
Tickets are available in advance at the Hadley Union Building or may be purchased at the door starting at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $9 regular admission, $8 for seniors citizens (62 and older), and $6 for students, children, and I-Card holders.
