Artist-in-residence Mike Stadler and English professor Lynn Shelly continue their cross-disciplinary collaboration to bring art into the classroom at IUP Punxsutawney.

Through ArtsPath, an arts-in-education program managed by the College of Fine Arts in partnership with the Pennsylvania on the Arts, the students in Dr. Shelly’s writing classes are learning to compose visusl texts while learning to compose verbal ones.

Under Mr. Stadler’s direction, the students learn basic woodworking techniques as they construct visual art compositions for their English class. The artwork contains personal writing and three-dimensional projects. Students also work with Mr. Stadler in creating a woodworking project that will remain a permanent fixture in the IUP Punxsutanwey Learning Center.

Mr. Stadler’s current ArtsPath residency is supported by a grant from the Punxsutawney Area College Trust and continues through December 2011. It will culminate with a display of works at semester’s end.
